We have designed a differential cooling plate that allows for the addition of a fan/pump/cooler combo or simply run by itself. No need to try and drill/tap the case or the fill plugs in these cars. This plate has ports for in/out oil lines as well as a diff temp sensor port and drain plug in the bottom in a vertical orientation.
There are dowel holes to install the included dowels to help make installing the plate easier in the car. We suggest silicone for the plate to differential housing face. The dowels index to factory fixturing holes on the differential case, so once the differential housing side of the plate is silicone'd you can easily index it to the differential with out making a huge mess if you install the dowels to use as your guide.
For the differential cooler plate to the OEM cover surface, we incldue a re-usable steel/rubber coated gasket which will make pulling the rear cover plate off the diff in the car super easy.
Most people don't pay attention to the diff oil temperatures in an NC, but in the stock configuration they can get very high. We have seen 325+ on multiple ocassions, which is just too high for the fluiids to work effectively.
The plate is as thick as it can be and still be installed with the diff in the car. It is threaded and tapped for cooler fittings and has oil squirter ports to direct oil to the face of the ring gear as well as down to the pinion bearing inside the housing.
In initial testing we have found that in the Pacific NW the plate is more than enough for sprint racing to reduce the diff oil to reasonable operating temperatures. Adding just the diff plates adds additional fluid which aids in how quickly the temperatures get to thier peak. The plate also has fins on all 4 sides which act as a heat synch and shocked us as to how efficient it was and how much it reduced the internal diff temperatures.
For those in hot climates and endurance applications who want a cooler/pump/filter combo we are working on a kit that lives on a removable plate in the trunk. Very easy to install as all parts are on the plate and can be removed individually in the event you want to clean or inspect them. No need to remove everything to get at one component. Simply cut a hole in the floor of the trunk for the fan to push the air through the coooler and out of the car, then install the plate in the truck and connect your oil lines. If you want to take the entire system out, cap the lines at the trunk and then remove the plate with all the parts on it and you are done.
We have a nice big easy to inspect custom filter and housing to make inspection nice and easy without worrying about spilling oil when looking at the filter.
