Per the SCCA 2016 GCR you are now permitted on a 1.6LSM to grind out the welds on the inside of the header to increase flow and power.  We will perform the following on your header.

  • Grind out welds on the inside of the head side of the header.
  • Grind out the weld on the inside of the header on the collector end of the header.
  • Repair and re-weld any existing cracks in the header.
  • Repair any head shield mounting tabs that are cracked or broken.
  • Re-inforce the outside of the header where the tubes meet the flange by welding or brazing each tube.

Why does it cost so much?

It takes close to 2.5 hours to complete all of this work.  The header welds are also stainless steel, so it takes more time, throws stainless shards everywhere and goes through tooling much quicker than regual steel.  If you are not careful when grinding out the welds you will grind through the actual header tube which will not be replaceable or repairable.

Price includes shipping back to you via UPS Ground in the continental United States.

Below is the new GCR rule that makes this legal.  Section 9.1.7.L.1 - GCR page 751

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1.6L (1990-1993): The exhaust manifold internal factory welds may be ground from the interior of the OEM exhaust manifold up to 1” from the mounting surfaces of the cylinder head and the collector. A bead of weld or braze may be added to the outside of the exhaust manifold inlet and outlet mounting flanges for the purposes of repair only. No coatings are permitted on the exterior or interior of the manifold. Heat wraps may not be used.

All other years: The exhaust manifold must be Mazda OEM, without any material added or removed. No coatings are permitted on the exterior or interior of the manifold. Heat wraps may not be used.
