4.5" Carbon Fiber air intake system for the 1.6L SpecMiata. Want more HP and Torque? This is the intake that will deliver you more usable mid range TQ and HP as well as more peak TQ and HP.
This is the high flow version of our Carbon Fiber 1.6L Miata Intake. It has a trumpet or venturi style design and uses a 4.5" dual cone style air filter.
In our testing we have found the 4.5" to be superior to the 3" we make and other 3" intakes on the market. We have tested it both on an engine dyno and a chassis dyno and have found peak HP increases by 2, but found both Torque and HP increases between 3 and 5 throughout the rev band. Most people want to know what the peak HP/TQ increases are, but you don't race only at the peak, so having an increase in both the mid range and the peak is one of the things that makes this intake so great!
Designed as a highly efficient intake to move air from the the air filter into the Air Flow Meter (AFM). The intake and air filter end is a 4.5" tube that transitions down to a 2" square which is what the AFM inlet accepts. Most intakes on the market are made from Aluminum and do not have a smooth transition from the bigger round end to the smaller square AFM end causing unwanted turbulence in the intake and lower flow. The CF intake weighs less than 1 lb and looks fantastic under the hood.
One of the big benefits is that Carbon Fiber does not transfer hear like Aluminum does so it would only get warm on the side that directly faces the headers. It will not pick up the heat from the header side and transfer it around to the entire intake creating a chimney like a lot of the Aluminum ones on the market. Intake temperature is extremely important for HP so for that extra bit of heat reduction you can cover the intake with heat shielding tape.
